I read many confusing post online about Sasuke Uchiha’s MBTI, so I have decided to take the thing more seriously and analyze him through japanese manga. Bring on table facts.
The most discussed type of Sasuke are: ISFP (FiSe) INTJ(NiTe) and ESTJ(TeSi).
But what is the true one? We will find out!(not today lol)
Naruto – Volume 1
Chapter 3, Pag 105 (Function Fi and Si function)
Into the chapter, Sasuke gets annoyed at Sakura complaining about Naruto.
this is what he says to her
孤独、親にしかられて悲しいなんてレベルじゃね.お前はうざいよ”
“Loneliness is not at the same level of feeling sad because parents scolded you. You are annoying”.
In this panel, Sasuke is showing a weak “Function Fi“. He is understanding the meaning of “loneliness” because he experienced that with parents death and he is getting annoyed by Sakura.
Carl Jung says about Fi Function:
“Zum Schutze schiebt es negative Gefühlsurteile vor oder eine auffallende Indifferenz.“
“To defend ownself pushs using negative feelings, judgment or through noticeable indifference”
If we consider only this panel, he is not ESTJ, because Inferior Fi has a different way of behaving.
This is a little part of what Jung says about Fi Inferior
“Die Minderwertigkeit des Gefühls bei diesem Typus äussert sich auch noch in anderer Weise…[..] Ist die bewusste Einstellung extrem, so fallen alle persönlichen Rücksichten fort, auch solche gegen die eigene Person.“
“The Inferior (Fi) of this type (Te Function) also manifests in another way.
When the conscious attitude is extreme,all the personal consideration disappear, even the one that goes against ownself.”
In that panel, Sasuke is affected by what Sakura said, from an emotional point of view and he is not destroying his personal consideration.
He shows also slightly Si function where recall something he has already experienced in past., something for him familiar.
Chapter 3, Pag 106 (Function Te)
Sasuke has been fooled by Naruto in the previous pages, but he has been able to get free by himself. When he faces Naruto, this is what he says:
忍者には縄抜けの術ってのがあんだ。。。覚えとけドベ
There is also a technique of ninja that (teach you) to get free from ropes. Remember that next time, stupid rookie”
Sasuke is using “Function Te” here. He is mentioning something he studied (objective information) and he used that against Naruto.
Chapter 4, Pag 115 (Aux Te and Tertiary Fi)
In this moment, Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke introduce themselves to Kakashi.
名はうちはサスケ嫌いなものならたくさんあるが好きなものは別にない
それから･･･夢なんて言葉で終わらす気はないが
野望はある!一族の復興とある男を必ず･･･殺すことだ“I am Uchiha Sasuke (from the honourable clan Uchiha). There are many things I dislike and there is nothing I actually like. And about my dreams, I have no intention of speak. But I have an ambition, the one of restoring my clan and kill certainly a man”
In this sentence, he is using both function Te and Fi. He is not introducing himself using the japanese word “名前(namae)” that means “Name“. Instead he is very precise and aware of the power of his clan (which is a fact and we will see later with Kakashi). He uses “名(na wa)” that means “Name (connected to honor, reputation and being famous)”. He is introducing himself with honor of being part of Clan Uchiha. He is not giving an opinion or personal feedback something that Function Fi could do, but he moves by objectivity. Something proved by external reality.
While Function Fi is visible through the words he uses “Kill certainly a man”. But it’s not a Dominant Fi. This could destroy immediately the theory of him being ISFP.
But even if he mentions to kill him, he still shows objectivity because there is a slight uncertainty and we can understand from the use of 野望Yobou which means Ambition and japanese dictionary describes as “Desire that goes beyond own limit“. He is aware it’s difficult to achieve.
Chapter 6, pag 153 (Dominant Te)
Sasuke is analyzing Kakashi’s moves and this is how he thinks.
こう忍術壱の巻3頂･･･変わり身の術
本来動物や植物と己の身をすばやく入れ換え
動物と少女の体を維持するために必要な組織
相手に攻撃を受けたかのように錯覚させ
そのスキを突く術･･･Ninjutsu. Volume 1, Chapter 3
Body Replacement Technique (Kawari no Jutsu)
It consists in replacing one’s body with an animal or a plant.
This can fool the opponent making him believe he has been able to attack.
In this panel, his Function Te is extremely strong. He is mentally seeking for connections between two elements: What he read and what he is experiencing from Kakashi. Everything is linear.
He also can remind the chapter and the book and his structured mind is visible through the panel Kishimoto has drawn.
Chapter 6, Page 167 and Chapter 7, Page 170/177 (Function Te)
In page 167 follows Kakashi’s test in which Naruto and Sakura show to be a failure to handle with it. At this point Sasuke states something to Kakashi:
オレはあいつらとは違うぜ･･･
I am not like those two.
People could think he is actually a Fi user, but he is not expressing an opinion saying that thing. Because few pages later, Kakashi confirms the statement:
あの２人とは違うってのは認めてやるよ
I recognize you are different than those two.
Sasuke is aware of his abilities which makes him objective(Function Te). But this is not the only thing Kakashi confirms about him.
In page 177, Kakashi is linear to Sasuke’s words I mentioned previously (Chapter 4, Pag 155)
里一番のエリートうちは一族の力･･･楽しみだ
The most powerful elite ninja clan Uchiha in the Village
Kakashi is recognizing Sasuke being different than other two and is recognizing Uchiha Clan as strongest one.
He uses ” Sato Ichiban” (First Place in Village)
Sasuke is not showing off, Sasuke is aware of external reality and moves on the basis of that.
